As stated by a senior military official, the US armed forces carried out a lethal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were injured.”

Background and Recent Actions

This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military presence.

Only on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amid Pressure

The government has encountered growing pressure to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a top official appeared to confirm a broader geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the military campaign may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
