Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
An important representative commented the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
