England Bowling Consultant Southee Unsure on The Ashes Availability

Tim Southee

The bowler's last Test match for New Zealand was against England in December 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating what his involvement will be during the forthcoming Ashes series in Australia.

The former New Zealand seamer is only likely to be available for the opening match due to his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.

The 36-year-old, aged 36, took up a position as England's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after taking 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Speaking as England's team for the first of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was named, Southee said of his participation: "We're still working through that at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the coming days."

England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the series, which starts on 21 November.

"In my view there's ever a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.

"Our focus is firmly on our own objectives. I think the quality of [the English] side that's going out to Australia is excellent.

"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

But, prior to the English team head to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
