Ethiopia Takes Back Historic Treasures Following a Long Stay in German Hands
A total of Twelve ancient objects have been formally given back to the Ethiopian nation after remaining by a German family for in excess of ten decades.
The artefacts, originally gathered in the 1920's by Germany's representative to the Ethiopian empire Franz Weiss and his spouse his partner, were transferred on Wednesday to the research center at the capital's university.
The assortment contained royal crowns, armor and paintings, each considered as historically significant in the country.
"These artefacts still represent a mark of the long-standing and amicable relationship between the German nation and the Ethiopian people," stated Ferdinand von Weyhe, the envoy to the East African country.
Professor Ramon Wyss, whose parent was delivered during the household's assignment in the nation, handed over the items at a ceremony joined by the Minister of Tourism the tourism official.
He said that the family's intention to give back the items was to "showcase their beauty with the audience and preserve the culture and history connected to my parent's birth."
These items were either donations or purchases, as stated by the family.
"I want to express gratitude to Professor Weiss's relatives for actively showing their deep appreciation for Ethiopia by carefully preserving these items and importantly guaranteeing their homecoming to their proper nation," said the official.
She continued that the items would in the near future be made accessible to the public for study and educational purposes, terming the move a significant step in protecting the nation's cultural heritage.
"Actions are ongoing to repatriate old objects that are located in the possession of individuals and entities throughout the globe," the minister stated.

The call by African countries for the restoration of taken objects has been responded to by some success in lately - though several items are only on short-term display.
In the year 2022, Germany was the pioneering country to give back a selection of the renowned Benin Bronzes to Nigeria in an attempt to address its "complex colonial history."
