Iran Reports Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the US has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
