LA Faces Historic Heat Just Days Following Severe Winter Storm.
Following a week of significant rainfall that led to inundation across sections of the city, Los Angeles is now confronting unseasonably hot temperatures for late February.
All-Time High Temperatures
On Friday midday, the mercury soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city center, as reported by meteorologists. This exceeds the previous daily record for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was established just last year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were labeled on forecast charts for the region.
Safety Advisories
The weather service stated that Friday's weather posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
An Extreme Shift
This sudden spike in mercury follows closely after a powerful winter storm that battered the state recently. That storm unleashed thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to mountainous regions, leading to mudslide risks for many residents.

Forecast Ahead
The outlook suggests some relief is coming. Readings were forecast to decrease to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in central Los Angeles by Friday night.
Several cities that experienced ninety degrees were Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were projected to experience the high eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, central Los Angeles can see temperatures in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures expected for the week ahead.
