New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”
The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”
New York police released video stills Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd was inactive during the current season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.
Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
