The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only came recently.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
