Unbowed Celtic's manager insists he is not worried about being fired yet Celtic fans show anger after defeat.
The under-pressure manager declared he had no concerns about the sack, maintaining, “We are very near to things turning around,” even after moving dangerously close to being fired with a comprehensive setback against the Ibrox side.
Another Capitulation Results in Old Firm Disaster
Celtic had led the visitors at the break but a second-half capitulation enabled the Gers to move level on points with the reigning league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was hired from Columbus Crew, has now been in charge for six setbacks in his last eight games.
“We are together with the board,” insisted Nancy.
Questioned about the speculation, he replied: “I don’t think about it. I think about finding ways to aid my players to be good on the fine details.
Supporters' Anger On Display
Celtic’s support voiced their fury – towards the board and manager – by gathering outside the stadium. The board are thought to be considering to bring back Martin O’Neill, who steered the club during a caretaker period previously, if Nancy departs.
“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. That is the situation for the moment. Yet in stating that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. Not at all. My point is we are on the cusp, really, really close to reverse our form.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
The coach remains focused on the fact Celtic can perform strongly for a half at a time. Indeed, were it not for wastefulness in front of goal they could have been more than 1-0 up. “There were positives except the fact that we haven’t scored more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I have also to be fair.
“The performance we had at stages was exceptionally high. This is the reality. I could not speak so positively if it was not the case. Therefore, when it comes to wins, I said we've seen this before. For that reason I feel we are really close to things turning around. Right now: small things.”
“We produced plenty of positives that we did, once more. The issue now comes down to performing for 90 minutes. My outlook would not be the same. This is why I am a big believer we will manage to fix this.”
The Rangers Boss Response
Danny Röhl played down talk of a serious challenge despite what appeared to be a statement victory. “One match at a time, then we can gradually build momentum,” he said. “The belief in the squad is excellent.”
