A spending plan that would conclude the most extended funding lapse in the nation's history is reaching the House of Representatives for a critical decision on the coming day.

On day 43 of the legislative standoff, lawmakers are coming back to Washington to decide whether to endorse a Senate package that would finance public services for two months.

GOP leaders voiced optimism the budget proposal would be approved by the Congressional body, despite their tight margin. But top Democrats vowed to oppose it.

"We're reopening our country," he announced on Tuesday at a patriotic gathering in Arlington, Virginia. "Should have never been shut down."
